The elegant simplicity of the overlapping shapes and the subtle color combinations used make this vase/bottle fit in with the classic creations made in the 80s. Yoichi Ohira's language is inspired by Asian craftsmanship and traditional Italian glass techniques reinterpreted with innovative taste. With his pieces he reflected different concepts and materials, such as the water of the Venice canals, as well as marble and stone, even eggshell and lacquer. Familiar with glass since 1969 when he worked in Japan as a glassblower, it was in 1973 when he moved to Venice enthralled by the book “Murano” that fortuitously fell into his hands. Excited and amazed by the fine glass he found in that publication, he moved to the city of canals and completed a bachelor's degree in sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts. He began working with Murano glass at the Centro Studio Pittori nell'Arte del Vetro di Murano (commonly known as Fucina degli Angeli) in 1973. In 1987, he was offered the position of artistic director at the De Majo glassworks in Murano, where he worked until 1992 with some of the most talented and accomplished glass masters on the island. From that moment on he made the important glass pieces today celebrated as masterpieces.
