Georgia O'Keeffe Art for Sale at Auction

Painter, Pastel Artist, Water color painter, Still life painter

Georgia O'Keeffe paintings are colorful, unique perspectives of flowers, bones, landscapes, and architecture. Her early art education was concentrated on realism. After being introduced to the photographs of Paul Strand and Arthur Wesley Dow's Modernist ideas, Georgia O'Keeffe's artwork began to veer toward abstraction.

In 1916, O'Keeffe's future husband, photographer Alfred Stieglitz, held the first exhibition of Georgia O'Keeffe's pencil drawings at his New York studio. During the 1920s, O'Keeffe began painting magnified images such as Petunia No. 2 (1924), an early abstract floral painting. Visiting New Mexico in 1929, she found her muse in the desert. She returned many times and eventually bought, among other properties, an abandoned adobe building and three acres that are featured in many Georgia O'Keeffe paintings.
