"A painting from this time, Concarneau Brittany 1958, shows the degree to which O'Leary retained his admiration for Gauguin and van Gogh. The painting depicts a landscape in which a figure, dressed in traditional Breton costume, stands below three trees. The tree trunks form vertical elements in the composition, while horizontal elements are derived from semi-abstract representations of the undulating landscape, with red roofs and fields and houses beyond trees."
