Sheridan Oman Sold at Auction Prices

b. 1926 - d. 1995

The late Sheridan Oman, painter and printmaker drew and painted wildlife since childhood. He was born in 1926 on a farm in New Jersey. He studied art under George Grosz and Kenneth Hayes Miller at the Art Students League in New York City.

The last twenty five years he lived in Arizona, observing the wildlife of the desert. For two years he worked as staff artist at the Bronx Zoo and for eleven years as staff artist at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum.

      Sheridan Oman (New Jersey/ Arizona, 1926-1995) Four etchings on paper   1. Ringtail Cat, plate size 8 3/4" x 6 1/4", frame size 16 1/4" x 14 1/4". 2. River Otter, plate size 7" x 8 1/4", frame size 14 1/4" x 15 1/4". 3. Young Bobcat, plate size 6" x 4", frame size 14 1/4" x 11 1/4". 4. Cottontail, plate size 6 1/4" x 3 3/4", frame size 14 1/4" x 11 1/4".   Each pencil-signed and titled, individually housed in matching glazed frames. Oman was the staff artist for the Bronx Zoo and later for the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum.
