        John Phillip Osborne (American b. 1952) Oil on Canvas "December Afternoon, Nantucket", signed lower right J.P. Osborne, in a Moyteka giltwood frame 18 in. x 24 in. Framed 25 in. x 30.75 in. Osborne is both a teacher and painter of the American landscape "en plein aire." Placing an emphasis on how objects in nature are seen in various degrees of sunlight, Osborne works with oil paint to achieve light and shadow effects as they are seen in New Jersey, New England, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, and in Europe. His paintings are intended to convey a direct study of the natural environment in all its mysterious, atmospheric moods. He is listed in the "Who's Who in American Art, Who's Who in the East", and he is on the Board of Trustees for the Ridgewood Art Institute. He graduated Cum Laude from the Pratt Institute in New York with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a teaching certificate, and studied with Alban Albert and Arthur Maynard of New Jersey.

BIOGRAPHY: Born on July 9, 1951, in Wycoff, New Jersey, John Phillip Osborne started painting at the age of 20. Osborne is both a teacher and painter of the American landscape "en plein aire." Placing an emphasis on how objects in nature are seen in various degrees of sunlight, Osborne works with oil paint to achieve light and shadow effects as they are seen in New Jersey, New England, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, and in Europe. His paintings are intended to convey a direct study of the natural environment in all its mysterious, atmospheric moods. Osborne's awards include include Best in Show at the Hudson Valley Art Association and a Gold Medal of Honor, along with Best of Light and Atmospheric Effects' awards. Osborne was the recipient of the Hudson Valley Art Association's highest honor, Artist in Special Tribute. The Bergen Museum of Art and Science honored Osborne as an inaugural inductee of the Mastadon Artists Society. His paintings have been exhibited at the American Embassies in Moscow, Africa, Indonesia and South America, and locally at the Bergen Museum of Art and Science. Osborne's teaching techniques have been featured in "American Artist" and "Palette Talk." He received the first American Art Achievement Award for Teacher of Oil Painting, and under his guidance high school, college, and professional painters have learned to paint in oils. Osborne is a senior instructor at the Ridgewood Art Institute in New Jersey, and he teaches landscape, seascape, still life and portraiture year round. He is listed in the "Who's Who in American Art, Who's Who in the East", and he is on the Board of Trustees for the Ridgewood Art Institute. Bond with reflection of trees as well as floating leaves. Signed lower right "J.P. OSBORNE". Back with Mongerson Wunderlich, Chicago, Illinois sticker with hand written label with title, artist, medium and size. Torn Mongerson Wunderlich label on verso of frame from a different Osborne work--likely changed to different frame. Accompanied with copy of John Phillip Osborne's curriculum vitae from Quast Gallery, Taos, New Mexico and a copy of a September 1991 article "Romancing the Light" in American Artist magazine by the artist where he writes on his work and artistic process (page 62-66). Lastly, accompanied with a copy of the invoice for the painting "Pond Interior" from Quast Galleries, Taos, New Mexico to Mr. Thomas Patton in August of 1995. Framed 28 inches x 24 inches.
