Gouache on cardboard Farah Ossouli (b. 1953) - Iranian painter and curator; co-founder of the artist group DENA Signed and dated FARAH OSSOULI 92 and inscribed in Persian Expulsion from Paradise VI lower left Dimensions: 69.5 x 72.5 cm Mounted in artist's frame: 76 x 78.5 cm Provenance: Private collection, Germany, acquired directly from the artist A typical work inspired by the classic Persian miniature painting In Farah Ossoulis paintings, elements of Persian miniature painting are combined with contemporary Farsi poetry, decorative art, book illuminations and famous images of art history, such as works by Frida Kahlo and Francisco Goya. Her central theme is the representation of Iranian women, living in a country haunted by crises and conflicts. Her decorative paintings symbolize the pseudo-beauty of Persian culture, which conceals violence and conflicts, as it is also often visible in traditional Persian miniature painting. Condition: The painting is in very good condition, showing only the lightest framings marks. The frame shows minor wear from storage. Farah Ossouli (b. 1953) Farah Ossouli studied painting at the Girls Academy of Fine Arts in Tehran. In 1977 she received a BA in Graphic Design at the Academy of Fine Arts. In addition, she taught at the Design Studio and the Moaser Studio in Tehran. Ossoulis works show influences of Persian miniature painting and texts by the Persian poet Hafiz. In addition to her activity as a painter, the artist works as a curator. Works by Ossouli can be found at the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Ludwig Museum in Koblenz, amongst others.
