        Palukst, Abraham. Acht signierte Radierungen. Mappe. 8 Bl. signierte und datierte, verso vom Künstler eigenhändig betitelte Orig.-Radierungen (34 x 29 cm Blattgröße) in OHalbleinen-Mappe mit Deckelschild. (Berlin 1922). -- Sehr seltene Folge, wohl nur in kleiner Auflage (50 Exemplare?) gedruckt und hier mit Nr 15 bezeichnet. Ekstatisch-expressionistische Folge über das jüdische Leben in der litauischen Heimat des Künstlers. Palukst wurde 1895 in Ritova geboren, ging nach Deutschland, studierte bei Hermann Struck und befreundete sich mit Jacob Steinhardt, den er auch poträtierte (heute im Israel Museum). Er starb 1926 in Berlin. Eine Anerkennung wurde ihm erst anläßlich einer Ausstellung in Tel Aviv 1982 zuteil. Einige seiner Zeichnungen und Radierzyklen zum jüdischen Leben sind erhalten, vieles gilt nach seiner Einlieferung in eine Nervenheilanstalt um 1925 als verschollen. Die einzelnen Titel der Blätter: Streit der Gottesleugner, Das Entsetzen, Unterhaltung, Erscheinung Elias, Disput, Der Sterbende, Religion und "Verzweiwlung" (sic), ein Blatt ohne Titel, verso steht (von anderer Hand geschrieben) "Stettin". – Wohlerhalten.

        Abraham Palukst, Acht signierte Radierungen [Abraham Palukst, Eight Signed Etchings]. Berlin: Hoboken Presse, 1922. A portfolio with eight etchings by Jewish-German artist Abraham Palukst. Signed in pencil and dated, 1922. All depict figures of pious Jews in a style reminiscent of German art of the period. On the front cover of the portfolio is a lithograph by Palukst with an inscription noting this is copy no. 9 (out of an edition of unknown size). Abraham Palukst (1895-1926), Jewish artist born in Ritova, Lithuania. Emigrated to Germany where he studied with Hermann Struck and was a friend of Jacob Steinhardt (his etched portrait, made by Steinhardt, is in the collection of the Israel Museum). Died in Berlin aged 31. In the 1980s he was "rediscovered", his works were displayed at an exhibition in Tel Aviv and an album of his works was published. Etching size varies, 16X12 cm. on average, leaves: 33 cm. Etchings in good condition, some with small tears to margins and creases. Damage to portfolio, to leather parts.

Sheet dimensions: each ca. 33.5 x 29.4 cm Object is regular taxed. 19% VAT is added to the purchase price for deliveries within the EU. The complete portfolio at hand originates from the artist Abraham Palukst (1895-1926), who was born in Lithuania and who created this portfolio in the year 1922. Part of the portfolio are eight dry point etchings on laid paper, who according to their titles depict 'The Dying Man' (Gross/Turner 35), 'Despair' (Gross/Turner 37), 'Entertainment' (Gross/Turner 39), 'The Drunk' (Gross/Turner 40), 'In Expectation of the Judgement' (Gross/Turner 49), 'After the Judgement' (Gross/Turner 51), 'Atheist' (Gross/Turner 57), and 'Expelled' (Gross/Turner 60). Each sheet was signed and dated 'A. Palukst 1922' by the artist in the plates. The original cardboard portfolio depicts on the front side a lithograph by the artist, which numbers the portfolio no. 12. The prints depict some traces of wear and age. The single sheets depict marginal wear, they are partially browned and here and there stains are visible on some sheets. The portfolio is strongly worn. The dimensions of the sheets are each ca. 33.5 x 29.4 cm.
