His work "Prespring" represents the transitional period between winter and spring, when nature begins to come alive, but is still covered with snow. Here Panuska captures the soft light and the play of shadows on the rest of the snow cover, which is typical of his sensitive approach to atmospheric moods in the landscape. Special emphasis is placed on blue and gold tones, which create a harmonious contrast between cool and warm colors. Today, the symbolist work of Jaroslav Panuška is one of the most valuable. He painted mysterious dramatic sessions of beings from another world - ghosts, vampires, mazes and watermen, but he also managed to visualize the darkest corners of the mind through the personification of fear, death and disease. It is the Dragon of Fate that can be one of the personifications of the monumental form of fear, invincibility and power that goes beyond human efforts to overcome it. Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche in his book So Said Zarathustra also describes the vision of a great dragon equal to God, which is called "You must". The millennial values shine on its scales, and the dragon is determined to subdue everyone with its authority and created values. Here, however, he lies completely defeated. From behind of the work is the author's dedication: "In memory of the day you defeated the evil dragon Fate. In Křižatky on November 4, 1919. Mother. Jarda. Váša." Jaroslav Panuška was one of the virtuoso landscape painters who managed to capture the mood and events in nature with brisk and very believable painting. Landscape On the shore of a pond provides a convincing record of the mood of the pond under a cloudy sky. The subdued cool color palette creates a feeling of a cold, damp and darker day, which, on the other hand, may be suitable for undisturbed observation of waterfowl indicated by several subtle strokes in the middle. Jaroslav Panuška projected the moods and changes of the landscape into his paintings with great care and used his knowledge to perfectly tune the atmosphere of his fairy-tale symbolist compositions. Jaroslav Panuška completely adopted the virtuoso landscape style from his teacher Julius Mařák, but he significantly deviated from the ranks of his peers with his symbolist-decadent work. Today, this work is one of his most valuable. He painted mysterious dramatic sessions of beings from another world - ghosts, vampires, labyrinths and watermen, but he was also able to visualize the darkest corners of the mind through the personification of fear, death and disease. The work of the Congress of Diseases works only with the jovial relaxation of the participants, who meet as old friends by the pond. Death reaches out to the staggering being and gives instructions as an experienced entertainer. Some observers reveal a familiar landscape - he chose the same venue for his work "Plague" (1903). Jaroslav Panuška, a leading Czech landscape artist and symbolist, fully adopted his teacher Julius Mařák’s sense of care towards depicting the beauty of nature, and his scenes are a faithful rendition of the moody Czech landscape. Winter Landscape with a Brook is a typical example of his work and offers a remarkably cleverly composed view of the quiet snow-covered winter countryside. The brook winding through the grove of leafless willows mirrors the surrounding scenery and the treetops allow only very little light to penetrate through to the inner scene, forming a mysterious atmosphere that is characteristic of Panuška’s oeuvre and can also be seen in his fondness for painting various fantastical beasts.

He started painting simple motifs from the open landscape at the Academy in Prague in around 1893. After two decades of an inclination for Symbolism, k Symbolism, which resulted in his well-known fairy-tale and macabre scenes, in 1920 he returned his focus to the Czech countryside. This landscape, with its fresh, relaxed color scheme, comes from this period of his career. Panuška is considered the most original student of the famous Mařák School, connecting the older tradition of Realism with more modern Impressionist approaches to painting. He significantly builds on the work of Antonín Chittussi, whose paintings were often of ponds, marshlands and meadows.
