      Est: €20,000 - €25,000

Attributed to LUIS PARET ALCAZAR (Madrid, 1746 - 1799). "Vase". Oil on canvas. It has a Carlos IV style frame. Measurements: 61 x 92 cm; 69 x 102 cm (frame). In spite of the sobriety of this piece, the author reveals through a subject of great artistic tradition a great skill and knowledge of the history of the history of art. The classical composition, with the main element in the centre, is shown to be dynamic thanks to the arrangement of the flowers. The finish of the flowers and their diversity in terms of species and tonality denote the great technical quality, so that the image shows a realistic finish that does not forsake beauty. The pastel tones and the gradations of colour, especially in the roses, model the flowers in a truthful and harmonious way. Luís Paret y Alcázar was an 18th-century Spanish painter who, throughout his career, remained closer to the late Rococo represented by Watteau than to the Neoclassicism that was beginning to take hold at that time through the influence of Mengs and other artists. He trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando and later in Rome, thanks to a scholarship granted by the Infante Don Luis de Borbón. Once back in Madrid he joined the workshop of Charles de la Traverse. Due to his connection with the Infante Don Luís, he was exiled to Puerto Rico in 1775 by order of Charles III, where he had José Campeche, among others, as a pupil. In 1778 he was allowed to return to Spain, although he stayed away from Madrid. During those years he devoted himself to mythological painting, landscapes, still lifes, interior scenes and vases. Finally, in 1788 he entered the Academy, at the same time as Francisco de Goya, and was authorised to return to court. In 1787 he undertook an important decorative undertaking, the tempera decoration of the dome and pendentives of the chapel of San Juan del Ramon in the church of Santa María de Viana. Paret and Alcázar's works are kept in important museums, such as the Lázaro Galdiano in Madrid, the Prado Museum, the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum and others.
