Sans doute parce que la célébration de son corps, sa sublimation est au coeur même de l'Art. Ferdinand Parpan, reprenant cette longue tradition, exalte la féminité, loue la noblesse des sentiments, fête le corps de la femme. Ses représentations ne sont qu'harmonie, équilibre sensuel et force paisible. Il a une façon souple de modeler les formes, de les arrondir et de les lisser, de les épurer à l'extrême. Il ne cherche pas à restituer les traits d'une femme en particulier mais à glorifier la "Femme" celle dont on rêve, celle que l'on sublime. Il ne sculpte donc pas une femme mais l'idée qu'il s'en fait, il sculpte son rêve. C'est pourquoi le visage de ses nus féminins est généralement flou, comme celui des Vénus préhistoriques, afin de mettre en valeur un corps aux courbes et aux volumes parfaits. Ses nus, d'une grande pudeur, témoignent d'une intense intériorité. Il s'en dégage une force sereine, un seeenns de la mesure et de la retenue, une clarté des masses et un rythme des lignes. Ses nus féminins, jamais impudiques, jamais vulgaires, sont rayonnants. Ils expriment l'élégance, la jeunesse, la vie, l'émotion, la délicatesse, la pureté. Leurs formes courbes et voluptueuses magnifient la "Femme" Avec une réelle économie de moyens, Ferdinand Parpan épure le corps de la femme et le drape dans un voile de poésie mystérieuse. L'artiste sait tirer le meilleur parti des matériaux qu'il emploie pour représenter ses femmes. Ferdinand Parpan (1902-2004), an Art Deco patinated bronze and ivory figure Notre Dame de Bon Secours, c.1935, signed F. Parpan and titled Modelled, cast and carved as the Madonna holding the infant Jesus, standing on a half globe and mounted on a stepped marble base 29.5 cm high (ARR) Ivory: Hairline on the little finger of the hand supporting babies back. Some dirt in the crevices of the carving on the ivory. A few marks. Bronze: A few marks and abrasions, but surface colour overall in good and even condition. Marble: Some filled holes to the natural marble with some old/original repairs to fissures. Please note that this lot contains ivory. Ivory is an endangered material with very strict rules about export/import. If you plan to take this lot out of the UK please check with your shipper if you can before bidding. Some countries do not allow the importation or exportation of ivory. A Bill is due to become law in the UK in the near future that limits the buying and selling of ivory, but as this lot is pre-1947, and as we judge the ivory content as equal too or less than 10% of the whole, it will still be legal to sell it in the UK if the new rules go through as proposed.
