      LARGE PORTRAIT OF DOROTHEA LANGE BY RONDAL PARTRIDGE. 19 ¾ x 16- inch gelatin silver print by Rondal Partridge, signed in pen by Partridge on the bottom margin, and again in pencil on the verso, with his pictorial "partridge" logo. Partridge (1917 - ) is one of Imogen Cunningham's sons. In the 1930's (when this portrait was originally made) he was Lange's assistant in her F.S.A. work (often developing her photographs) and also assisted Ansel Adams. "Quizzical Eye; the Photography of Rondal Partridge" (Berkeley, 2002) accompanied two exhibitions of his photographs. Partridge donated this later print in 2008 to a fundraising auction for the Berkeley photography organization Fotovision, held at the Berkeley home where Lange had lived with her second husband Paul Taylor. A photograph on the APERTURE MAGAZINE site [http://www.aperture.org/exposure/?p=351] depicts Partridge showing this very photograph to the winning bidder. One of Lange's sons, Daniel Dixon, who was at that event, wrote a pencil inscription to the collector on the back of the mat: "We have something to remember together." This is a beautiful portrait, rare and impressive in this large size. [4]
