    • Jeanette Pasin-Sloan (American, b. 1946)
      Nov. 16, 2018

      Jeanette Pasin-Sloan (American, b. 1946)

      Est: $2,500 - $3,500

Jeanette Pasin-Sloan (American, b. 1946), "Untitled (Stripes)", 1993, oil on canvas, signed and dated en verso, 34 in. x 28 in., unframed. Note: Jeanette Pasin Sloan is firmly rooted in the tradition of the still life, yet has added a modern twist to her work through the incorporation of her love for Op art. Her geometric additions shift the genre by having form take importance over subject. Pasin Sloan employs a realistic style of rendering everyday objects, usually highly reflective, through a close-in view. The reflections, patterned background and cropping create what she refers to as “Heroic Materialism.” In describing her process she says: “My best work was always on the edge of disorder. I think it is as much about disorder as harmony and balance." Ref.: “Jeanette Pasin Sloan Artist Bio.” Lew Allen Galleries. www.lewallengalleries.com. Accessed Oct. 18, 2018.

Highly stylized and composed, Sloan studies here how light effects different reflective surfaces, giving each image a deep, almost liquid quality. Jeanette Pasin Sloan (American, b. 1946) Demonstrating visual feats of technical virtuosity, Chicagoan native Jeannette Pasin Sloan is known for her photo-realistic paintings, prints, and drawings that are both abstract and representative as a metaphor of chaos and order. She received her BFA from Marymount College and MFA from University of Chicago, and her art grew out of her fascination with objects of the home against highly reflective and patterned settings. Exhibiting in group and solo shows regularly since 1975, Sloan has had various teaching appointments at various colleges like Northwestern University and University of Notre Dame since 1986. Privately collected by many, her works are also held in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Smithsonian American Art Museum, and Art Institute of Chicago.
