      Nancy-Lou Patterson 1929- "Mennonite Girls" gouache Signed lower left and dated 1965. Nancy-Lou Patterson is an artist and prolific author of many books including "Mennonite traditional arts of the Waterloo region and southern Ontario: a historical view." She was born in Worcester, Massachusetts and studied art at the University of Washington. After graduation she spent time on Native American reserves and participated in the Civil Rights Movement. She moved to Waterloo, Canada with her husband in 1962 and founded the University of Waterloo's Fine Arts Department in 1968. She twice served as the department chair before retiring in 1992. Patterson's artistic portfolio reflects her many talents and Renaissance personality: it includes paintings, stained glass windows, and textile art as well as poetry, novels, scholarly essays, and children's books. Sight image 13 1/2" H x 10" W, framed.
