          Est: R20,000 - R30,000

Malcolm Payne (South Africa 1946-) Untitled 2 ( from the Pogonology series) oil on canvas (197 x 300 x 4.5 cm) Qty: (1) Provenance: Private collection, Cape Town. Notes: This artwork comes from a solo exhibition where the artist explored the cultural and historical significance of beards. The exhibition featured a series of artworks examining the symbolic meanings and representations of facial hair throughout different periods and societies. Payne's work combined various media to provoke thought on the intersection of identity, masculinity, and social norms. The exhibition invited viewers to consider the beard as more than just a physical attribute, but as a cultural artifact loaded with meaning [1] [1] Pogonology by Malcolm Payne (2011). [Exhibition catalogue]. Blank Projects, Cape Town. 2 June 2011 to 2 July 2011. [online] https://issuu.com/malcolmjohn/docs/pogonology_exhibition_catalogue. Accessed 30 July 2024. The overall condition is very good. Minor surface dirt on the unpainted areas of the canvas.
