            PAZIENZA ANDREA - PERTINI

            Est: €1,500 - €2,500

PAZIENZA ANDREA. PERTINI. Andrea Pazienza and Sandro Pertini share an affinity. In the partisan president, the author saw the last specimen of a race of men as tough but pure as children, a ray of light in the dark night of the First Republic. He was surrounded by shady characters, busybodies who would do anything to enrich themselves and keep their seats. In 1978 Sandro Pertini brought his pipe and his explosive presence to the Quirinale and became President of the Republic. In the same year, Andrea Pazienza, together with the Bologna gang, drew small masterpieces for the independent magazines Cannibale, Frigidaire and Il Male. Italy was torn apart by the war, and in this dark period Pazienza invented the amusing character of Pert, who led the real Pertini to invite him to dinner at the Quirinale. The artist and the president would never meet, however, for there were many similarities between the rebellious Pazienza and the partisan president Pertini. The two never met, but they were both men of action, little inclined to rhetoric, great lucubrations, and had that revolutionary nature that mocks authority by disrupting its rigid and austere structure.. 13,00 x 17,00 cm.

            Est: €1,000 - €2,000

PAZIENZA ANDREA. Three boards from "Il bestiario" . RAPACE : felt pen on paper 10 x 10 cm MARTIN FISHERMAN : marker and ink on squared paper 18 x 21 cm WOLF DOG PUPPY WITH TARTARUGA: marker on squared paper 29 x 21 cm Andrea loved animals (although she did not like taking care of them, as she admitted in a short autobiography) and loved to observe them. Leafing through the book, we find the plastic tension of cats at rest and before action, the attention to detail of small insects, ducks and more humanised in homage to her beloved Barks. Drawings made between 1984 and 1987 for Legambiente's Green Agenda, then exhibited at the Lucca Comics Fair and finally collected in a volume by Editori del Grifo in 1992. Here these plates are documented and published. In the volume, the animals are grouped by genre; the earliest works are dedicated to cats, for which Pazienza seems to have had a predilection. With just a few strokes, animals of all kinds appear on the page, all very human in their characterisation and perfect in their execution, whether drawn with two lines of a large felt-tipped pen or accompanied by the meticulous hatching to which the author was accustomed in other cases. The silhouette and the clear line, the play of shadows and light, describe these animals, lying limply on the branches of gnarled trees or frozen in the shot that impassively marks the fate of the poor prey. These are animals captured in the moment of action or in their natural habitat, but there are also many pages that focus on faces and expressions, tending to anthropomorphise cats and chimpanzees, letting human feelings shine through without distorting their features (except for the deliberately humanised images of gorillas in suits or ducks, indebted to Carl Barks). 10,00 x 10,00 cm. 1992.

"The extraordinary adventures of Pentothal", a work made by Pazienza at just 21 years old , is the detailed diary of the dreams, illusions and contradictions of its author and of an entire generation, that of Bologna in 1977. The language is a riot of slang, onomatopoeia, neologisms and ungrammatical terms. The graphic trait is a happy expressive anarchy between suggestions of Pop art and airy hatchings on the Moebius model. Three very small tears on the right margin.
