About the Artist: Building her career out of a combination of self-teaching efforts and more formal schooling at Washington University, Pearlmutter began her career as a commercial artist for local department stores, including Famous-Barr Co. Despite a budding skill, she refrained from serious pursual of the arts until in her 40s, though she possessed a wide berth of expertise - working in oils, ceramics, prints and textiles. Her favorite subjects were florals, nudes and scenes from her world travels. Pearlmutter gained primary recognition with private collectors in St. Louis, though her work has been popular throughout the country. She came to prominence locally in 1956, winning the annual portrait competition of the St. Louis Artists' Guild, and her career heightened from that point until her death in 1993.
