    Wilbur D. Peat (Indiana, 1898 - 1966), "On the Lake," watecolor on paper, initialed at lower right and signed fully on the verso, measures 11.25 x 9.50 inches to the matt edge, 19.50 x 17.25 inches framed. CONDITION: Good, matt with some light spotting. Born in Chengtu, China, Peat studied at Ohio Wesleyan University, the Cleveland School of Art, the National Academy of Design, the Art Students League, and the University of Chicago. From 1924 to 1929, he was Director of the Akron Ohio Art Institute and from 1929 until his retirement was Director of the John Herron Art Institute in Indianapolis. He wrote books and was a regular contributor to the Indiana Magazine of History, and the Art Quarterly, and lectured on Pioneer Painters of Indiana.
