      Attributed to Orrin Peck (1860 - 1921) Oil on Canvas Sight: 23 1/4 x 19 1/4" Overall: 30 x 26" Orrin Peck was known as a portrait and landscape painter. Born in Hobart, NY in 1860. At age two Peck made the trip to California via the Isthmus of Panama. Aboard the ship was Phoebe A. Hearst who took a liking to the child and became his "other mother." Artistically inclined at an early age, he traveled to Munich where he studied with Gijsis and Loefftz. He later returned to Munich and lived there for many years. Returning to California in 1912, Peck became artistic director for San Simeon and painted several portraits of the Hearst family at the ranch. He died in Los Angeles on Jan 20, 1921.

      Orrin Peck (California 1860-1921), charcoal sketch on paper, old woman with head scarf, indistinctly signed in folds of neck scarf "Orrin", signed lower right "Peck", 20 1/2" x 17 1/2", framed, good condition. Orrin Peck was commisioned to paint the portraits of Mr. and Mrs. William Randolph Hearst, one of which hangs in Hearst's San Simeon. He also designed the landscaping in 1920.
