Pecquereau’ Framed under glass in a gilt wooden frame Overall dimensions, framed: 90 x 72.5 cm Good condition Provenance: Private collection, Germany Colorful depiction of the flower market in Antwerpen The present painting is the work of Alphonse Ernest Pecquereau, and dates from around 1900. It shows a view of a flower market in Antwerp, presumably the Grote Mark. The bustling crowd in the center of the depiction is surrounded by the typical guild houses from the 16th and 17th centuries. The sheet is signed lower right, ‘A. Pecquereau’, and matted all round. It is in good condition with faint yellowing and foxing, on the front side mainly visible to the area of ​​the sky. The paper is somewhat curly. The gilt wooden frame is in good condition with a few small nicks. The overall dimensions, framed, are 90 x 72.5 cm. The paper size is 65.5 x 49 cm. Alphonse Ernest Pecquereau (1831-c. 1910) Born in Valenciennes, the painter Alphonse Ernest Pecquereau was a pupil of Gustave Simonau and Jean-Baptiste van Moer. He was also influenced by Emile Claus, Henry Schaefels and Charles Verlat. Around 1880, he became a member of the Société Royale des Aquarellistes. Regular study trips took him to Germany and Luxembourg. His watercolors mainly depict landscapes and military scenes. Today, works by Pecquereau are on display in important museum collections, including museums in Brussels and Groningen. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
