Oil on painting United States of America, 1993 Alison van Pelt (born 1963) - American artist Signed illegibly on the lower right (only faintly visible) Dimensions: 121 x 121 cm Good condition Provenance: Private Collection, Germany A portrait of Britney Spears by the American artist Alison van Pelt was sold at auction in New York for 30.000 Euros This oil painting by the American artist Alison van Pelt was created in the United States in 1993. The art work has been painted in a dark palette and shows the face of a man from the side who is looking over his shoulder directly into the viewer's eyes. The outlines of the man appear faint and soft and as though he was photographed through a mist. Also in this work the artist Alison van Pelt has proven her talent for the deliberate obscuring and abstracting of her subjects. The art work is in a good condition. The surface partially shows minor color flaking and slight framing marks as well as slight loss of color on the borders. The dimensions of the canvas are 121 x 121 cm. Alison van Pelt (born 1963) Born in Hollywood in 1963, Alison van Pelt grew up in the liberal climate of the 1960s and 1970s in Los Angeles. Van Pelt studied at UCLA, Art Center College of Design, Otis College of Arts and Design, Parsons and the Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy. Influenced greatly by her upbringing, she is known for her characteristic photorealist painting style. The themes of her work vary from celebrities to spiritual leaders and from Native Americans to Heads of States among others. By drawing on photographs of these figures she first creates a classical portrait entirely by drawing and painting. Subsequently the work is altered by blurring and rebuilding the paint. The outcome is a beautiful, mystical depiction of the subject which is not idealized but humanized. Alison van Pelt's works have been exhibited throughout the entire world and are part of a number of important collections, such as the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation, the Jumex Foundation in Mexico City, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Studio Museum in Harlem among others. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
