      WILLIAM N. PENDLETON

      Est: $300 - $400

WILLIAM N. PENDLETON (1809 - 1883) Confederate brigadier general and Episcopal minister, Lee's Chief of Artillery who named four of his field pieces "Mathew", "Mark", "Luke" and "John". A.E.S. in his typically tiny hand as brigadier general of artillery, 2 1/2" x 2 1/4", [n.p., n.d.]. Difficult to decipher with a few words blurred and illegible, but Pendleton mentions "Captain Peyton...Capt. Fry, Major Jones' battalion, Gen. D. H. Hill's Div...heavy action...defending Richmond...the applicant is probably of the latter..." Due to difficult legibility, estimated accordingly.
