        JOHN PENN (1729 - 1795) Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania and grandson of William Penn, he was a Loyalist during the Revolution and consequently lost most control over his holdings. Partly-printed D.S. "John Penn" as Lieutenant Governor, 1p. oblong folio, Philadelphia, 1774, ordering Edmund Phisick to affix the great seal of Pennsylvania to a patent granted to Isaac Wikoff for land in Northampton County. Minor chips at bottom margin, usual folds, else very good. Offered together with RICHARD PENN (1736 - 1811) partly-printed D.S. "Richd Penn" 1p. oblong legal folio, Philadelphia, Aug. 5, 1773, filled out in his hand, being a grant onto William Graham of Cumberland County, a tract of 300 acres "on a Flat of Tusses[?] Mounton nearly opposite the West End of Nittany hill including the Old Beaver Dam and a fresh Water Pond in the county of Northumberland " Countersigned by surveyor-general JOHN LUKENS. Toned along weak folds reinforced on verso, minor marginal losses, else very good. Also offered together with a partly-printed D.S. bearing John Penn's secretarial signature, 1p. folio on vellum, [Philadelphia], Dec 10, 1794, a deed between the Penns and Paul Everhardt for a 349 acre tract in Franklin Township, Westmoreland County. Usual folds, else very good condition. Together, three pieces.

        JOHN PENN

        JOHN PENN (1741 - 1788) Signer of the Declaration of Independence, elected to attend the provincial Congress in 1775 and elected to the Continental Congress that same year. He served until 1777, participating in committee work and was again elected in 1779 to the Board of War, where he served until 1780. Rare A.D.S. signed twice "John Penn" in text and at conclusion, Granville Co., S.C., Jan. 2, 1783, 1p. legal folio, a bond issued to John Boyd in the sum of 4,800 pounds in a case concerning the seizure of a cargo of 2,400 pounds of tobacco at Halifax. Three small holes at top cost a few letters of text, some slight show-through of docket on verso, folds, else very good.
