Not signed, but each titled and dated in the image at bottom; pencil credit on verso in later hand. 25.5x40.5 cm (10x16”) or smaller, 2 mounted on thin board.Striking series of original watercolors by British architect and artist Francis Cranmer Penrose (1817-1903). Though more famous as an architect than a watercolorist, his works on paper are present in a number of galleries and collections, mostly however of European subjects, notably Greece. He seems to have made a tour of the United States in 1878, spending a few summer weeks capturing the mountains and other scenery in Colorado. Thought not signed, the watercolors are titled and dated in Penrose‘s distinctive hand. Over the years, he served as Surveyor of the Fabric of St Paul‘s Cathedral, as President of the Royal Institute of British Architects, and as Director of the British School at Athens.
