One of the founders and central members of the French Surrealist movement, Benjamin Péret is regarded as one of the great French poets of the 20th century. Born in Rezé, Péret served in the First World War. Afterwards, he joined the Dada movement and published his first book of poetry in 1921, “Le Passager du translantique.” He then abandoned the Dada movement to follow André Breton and the emerging Surrealist movement, taking hold of automatism in his work.
