GUILLERMO PÉREZ VILLALTA (Tarifa, Cádiz, 1948). "Sagrario de las doce puertas" (Tabernacle of the twelve doors), 1989. Polychrome wood and bronze legs. Unique specimen of a series of six works. It has slight marks on the wood. Signed and dated on one of the doors. Measurements: 95 x 50 cm (diameter). This twelve-door tabernacle is a unique piece that belongs to a series of five other tabernacles, which vary slightly in color and shape. The artist's catalog explains that "The idea arose from the desire for a centralized piece of furniture, accessible from all sides, facing the piece of furniture that surrounds us and seems to look at us leaning against the wall. I thought of a ritual object that will perform the function of a shrine or tabernacle where to keep important things. Twelve, like the hours of the clock and the months of the year, could be the number of its faces and doors. To distinguish one from the other I devised mnemonic symbols that I made based on those of the Zodiac, but varying them according to what they suggested to me and that the user must link to his memory with the object he keeps. Four turtles, symbol of prudence, sustain it and an unreachable Grail is its heart". Pérez Villalta was one of the leading representatives of the New Figuration in Madrid. He was awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Culture in 1975, by the Juan March Foundation in 1980, and by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the Spanish Academy in Rome in 1989. Among his awards are the National Prize of Plastic Arts in 1985, and the Medal of Andalusia in 1989. Since his solo debut in 1972 at the Amadís gallery in Madrid, Pérez Villalta has had many solo exhibitions in such prominent places as the Juana de Aizpuru, Vandrés, Soledad Lorenzo, Rafael Ortiz and Soledad Riera galleries, the National Library, the Estampa fair, the Banco Zaragozano and the Museo de Bellas Artes in Bilbao. He has participated in group exhibitions at the Metropolitan Museum in Tokyo, the Guggenheim in New York, the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon and the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, among many others. Pérez Villalta is represented in the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the Artium in Vitoria, the Patio Herreriano in Valladolid, the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo in Málaga, the Fundación Juan March in Palma, the Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo in Seville, the Fundación Suñol in Barcelona, the Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno in Las Palmas, the Museo Colecciones ICO in Madrid and the Museo de Bellas Artes in Bilbao, among other prominent contemporary art collections. It has slight marks on the wood.

GUILLERMO PÉREZ VILLALTA (Tarifa, Cádiz, 1948). "Sfinx", 1981- 1985. Black lacquered wood. Current print run of 99 copies. Edited by Rafael Ortiz. Presents rubbing and scratches. Measurements: 70 x 75 x 30 cm. In this sculpture of round bulk, the author presents us in a schematic way the image of a sphinx. Lacquered in black, the sculpture presents an image of continuity and rotundity that flees from the anecdotal and even narrative elements since it does not show any iconographic attribute related to the sphinxes except the lines of the head, which let us intuit an Egyptian crown. Designed in 1981 by its author as a nod to architecture and antiquity, it was edited by Rafael Ortiz in 1985. Pérez Villalta was one of the leading representatives of the New Figuration in Madrid. He was awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Culture in 1975, by the Juan March Foundation in 1980, and by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the Academy of Spain in Rome in 1989.

GUILLERMO PÉREZ VILLALTA (Tarifa, Cádiz, 1948). "Las luciérnagas", 2018. White ink on silk. This piece belongs to the Kimono Joya collection. Signed and dated in the lower area. Size: 38 x 39 cm; 53 x 53 cm (frame). This work belongs to the exhibition project entitled "Treasures on silk. Ensoñaciones orientales", created by Fumiko Negishi and Carlos Muñiz. The project not only included an exhibition of 30 Haoris intervened by various artists from the international contemporary art scene, but was also accompanied by a set of 10 Tanka poems by Junko Okawara, objects of Wabi Sabi philosophy and action painting. In the creation of this collection, the inspiration of the exhibition entitled "Kimono Joya, Wabi Sabi the beauty of imperfection" has been fundamental. This exhibition was created on the basis of an artistic project of national and international recognition: Kimono -joya; which after having been exhibited in several cities in Spain and Japan, was presented in the Matadero hall in Madrid in 2023. Each of the artists created their artistic design based on the traditional Japanese garment known as Haori. Each of the works presents a reduced T-shaped format, following the idea of idealising the miniature, a concept that harmonises with oriental philosophy. The material itself transports the viewer to the trade routes between East and West and to the natural exchange that is the basis for the enrichment of a profound knowledge. The Haori, as a cultural identity, has been intervened by each artist in a personal way and serves in this case as a catalyst for this exchange and a canvas for the personal vision of each of the artists who have participated in this project. Pérez Villalta was one of the leading representatives of the Nueva Figuración Madrileña. He received a grant from the Ministry of Culture in 1975, from the Juan March Foundation in 1980, and from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the Spanish Academy in Rome in 1989. His awards include the Premio Nacional de Artes Plásticas in 1985, and the Medalla de Andalucía in 1989. Provenance: private collection conceived since the 1970s between London and Madrid. Measurements: 73 x 103 cm; 84 x 116 cm (frame). In this work we can appreciate Villalta's mastery in portraying architecture. Two different worlds come together to form a whole. The expressiveness of colour coexists with the sobriety and precision of the drawing whose protagonist holds the lunette through which the spectator accesses a world of free chromaticism. The artist plays with perspective, creating a trompe l'oeil where the limits of the work and the frame dialogue with each other, blurring before the spectator. This same resource can be seen in the work, also from 1981, "El políptico largo (Melancolía)", which is in the collection of the Reina Sofía Museum and Art Centre in Madrid.
