St George's Gallery, 1958, complete set of eighteen etched plates, each signed and dated in pencil, each a limited edition numbered 1/75, plate dimensions 28 x 42cm (11 x 16.5ins), sheet size 38.5 x 56cm (15 x 22ins) Peter Peri was born in Budapest, joining the avant-garde Der Sturm group after moving to Berlin in 1920 where he acquired a reputation as a leading constructivist artist, though later in the 1920s he would produce realist sculpture. With strong socialist principles that would remain throughout his life, Peri was forced to flee Germany and became a British citizen in 1939. During WWII he developed an interest in etching, producing well-received series on Gulliver's Travels and The Pilgrim's Progress. Unten rechts mit Tusche signiert und numeriert 922", verso oben und unten handschriftlich unleserlich bezeichnet. 1920er Jahre. Laszlo Peri, geboren als Ladislas Weisz, verließ Ungarn bereits früh. Angekommen in Berlin schloss er sich der Gruppe "Der Sturm" an. 1922 stellte er seine konstruktivistischen Skulpturen in einer Ausstellung zusammen mit Laszlo Moholy-Nagy aus. Von 1924 bis 27 war Peri für ein Architekturbüro tätig, wandte sich anschließend jedoch ausschliesslich der Bildhauerei zu. Bedingt durch das Nazi-Regime, zog der Künstler mit seiner Frau 1935 nach London, zu Kriegsbeginn wurde er Britischer Staatsbürger und nannte sich fortan Peter Peri. In den folgenden Jahren nahm er an zahlreichen Gruppenausstellungen teil und stellte Skulpturen und Reliefs für öffentliche Gebäude in Großbritannien her. Seine Werke befinden sich unter anderem in der Tate Gallery und im British Museum in London sowie im Museum of Tel Aviv in Israel. Wie Fietzek in ihrer Abhandlung bemerkt, handelt es sich bei der vorliegenden Zeichnung um eine Skizze zu einem der Modelle, die im Februar 1922 in der Galerie "Der Sturm" ausgestellt wurden (vgl. Kat.-Nr. 54: Modell Denkmal/Holz; Nr. 57: Modell Neues Forum/Beton; Nr. 58: Modell Neben Wasser/Beton oder Modell Zeichnung im Katalog der Ausstellung "Der Stum.
