Sonja Perkovich Art for Sale and Sold Prices

b. 1965 -

Born in Nowra to a Croatian father and Dutch artist mother Linda Simonis in 1965, Sonja Perkovich is an Australian artist who began painting at the age of 24 when her mother finally convinced her to hone into her artistic talent and attend art lessons.

Sonja was inspired upon the completion of her first artwork, which released her fiery passion for art as her mother always secretly knew it would!

Sonja’s attention to detail became apparent in her portraiture work and soon Sonja was accepting regular commissions for portraits. Apart from lessons with Linda Simonis and some workshops with prominent Australian artists Herman Pekel and John Wilson, Sonja is largely self taught.

After being accepted into the royal Easter Show Art Exhibition in the 1990’s, Sonja took a hiatus from exhibiting after she became a single mother of two boys. She continued to paint at night and in 2012 won first prize in the Chroma Art awards, earning a scholarship to the Mitchell School of Arts tutorials at Bathurst university.

Sonja has exhibited in the CASS Art Of Sydney Awards in Darling Harbour and held a 2 person art exhibition with Linda Simonis at The Arthouse Hotel in Sydney’s Pitt Street. In 2013 the Red Hill Art Gallery in Qld held the successful group exhibition ‘Spring Awakening’, presenting Sonja’s realistic still life paintings along with the works of accomplished artists Stephen Doyle and Judith Dalozzo. The Red Hill Gallery has this to say about Sonja’s work: “Sonja Perkovich’s still lifes are sun drenched with natural light, capturing the vibrant colours and beauty of Australian flora. With an inquisitive eye for detail her portrayal of colour can only be compared to a love affair – one where the artists passion and thirst to convey her emotions emanate from every brush stroke”.

Sonja also successfully exhibited her still life works in the Trevor Victor Harvey Gallery in seaforth from 2012 – 2014.

In 2016 Sonja found her most profound inspiration in Sydney Harbour sparking a new series of works from a deep and long-standing passion for the shimmering peacock colours of Sydney Harbour and Lavender Bay, balancing these works simultaneously with a series of figurative pieces so she can continue expressing her love of the human form and portraiture.

Sonja’s works hang in Australia, London and New York and she now channels her work through IndiCo Galleries whos extraordinary collaboration and support of Australian Artists sets the pace for a new era in Australian galleries
