      Joseph Nicolaus Peroux (1771 Ludwigsburg - 1849 Frankfurt on the Main) after Nikolaus Vogt (1756 - 1836 ): Adolphseck' with beautiful lady and dog sitting in front of the entrance of a wall, print from Vogt's 'Rhenish Pictures', 19th century, Lithography Technique: Lithography on Paper Inscription: Signed on the left and right below the image, inscribed in the centre below. Printed in the "Lusen[?]bethchen Steindruckerei zu Frankfurt". Date: 19th century Description: Sheet from the book 'Rheinische Bilder', which tells of and illustrates German sagas, edited by Nicolaus Vogt, published in 1821 by the Hermannsche Buchhandlung. The damsel depicted here is presumably the mistress of King Adolph of Nassau. He built the small castle of Adolphseck for his mistress, who, wounded after a battle, took him to a monastery and nursed him.       Bildnis eines jungen Herrn in dunklem Rock mit weißer Halsbinde. Pinsel in Braun über Bleistift auf Velin. 22,4 x 19,2 cm (im Oval). Rechts signiert und datiert "J. N. Peroux. dl. 1823. Joseph Nicolaus Peroux, der als Miniaturist, Radierer und Lithograph wirkte, lernte bei Nicolas Guibal an der Akademie und der Hohen Karlsschule in Stuttgart. Ab 1795 war er in Frankfurt am Main, ab 1800 in Hamburg tätig, wo er 1803 ein Porträt der Emma Hamilton und ein Selbstbildnis ausstellte. Anschließend gründete er in Lübeck eine Kunstschule, wo er 1805 den gerade 16-jährigen Friedrich Overbeck in der Zeichenkunst unterwies. Das Museum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte in Lübeck besitzt ein von Peroux im Jahr 1806 gemaltes Portrait von Overbeck. Im gleichen Jahr kehrte Peroux nach Frankfurt zurück, wo er bis zu seinem Lebensende blieb.
