Petersen 76’ Drawing of an ornament Total dimensions, framed: 52.5 x 39.5 cm Good condition This drawing in pencil with heightened white depicts an ornament with form shadows and reflected light, and not more than three or four shadow tints and a fifth heightening in hand drawing. Represented in floating, organic lines. The artist’s signature and date ‘H. Petersen 76’ are located on the lower right on the front side of the drawing. The sheet is mounted in a gilded wooden frame. The condition of the work is good according to its age. The paper is yellowed and foxed. The wooden frame is slightly warped. The total dimensions framed are 52.5 x 39.5 cm, and the size of the sheet is 49,5 x 36,3 cm. Hans Christian Petersen (1853-1919) The Danish sculptor, stucco master, and art warbler Hans Christian Petersen was born in 1853 in Vejle. He was taught by V. Fjeldskov at the Technical School and the Academy of the Arts Copenhagen. Petersen executed decoration works at Frederiksborg Castle, especially in the knights’ hall and in the rose. In addition, Petersen created the statues of Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar in front of the inner Castle Bridge in Copenhagen. Other decoration works that originate from him are located in the Frederic-(Marble)-Church. In the main building of the Magasin du Nord the pediment group is by Petersen.
