        ANTONIO PETRUCCELLI (1907-1994) American Eagle. Alternate cover for Fortune Magazine February, 1940. Gouache on board. 350x285 mm; 13 3/4x11 1/4. Signed "A. Petrucelli" in lower left image. Tipped to mount, matted, and framed. Petrucelli created numerous covers for Fortune magazine. He said of this project: "This was a Hank Brennan assignment. He wanted a decorative stylized eagle with silver or gold for one color. I did three versions and of course the one I lease preferred was used." (See: fulltable.com/vts/p/pet/menu.htm).

The volume covers various topics with in-depth articles on Pullman Inc - the builder of railroad cars (passenger and freight) with paintings by Adolf Dehn, George Pullman; The Federal Tax System - Fortune's examination on state and local taxes; South America II: Peru with photographs by Leigh Irwin depicting Andes, llamas carrying freight, market, Machu Picchu, sugar cane, farming, oil and mining industry, Peruvian politics, and the map of the country; Industry and Labor - an article by Tom M. Girdler, chairman of the Republic Steel Corporation; Toscanini on the Air - an article about an Italian conductor Arturo Toscanini (1867-1957); Toledo Art Museum with paintings by Piero di Cosimo, Velasquez, Daubigny, John J. Smith for Mallory, and various advertisement for whiskey and bourbon brands - Old Grand-Dad, Four Roses, Martell, Goodrich rubber, Pullman travel company, Studebaker car, Oldsmobile, General Motors, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Packard; travel - United Air Lines, American Express travel service, tourism to New Zealand, Cunard White Star Line, Italian Line, Alcoa Aluminum, Camel and Chesterfield cigarettes. Soft paperback binding, volume consists of 168 pages. Fortune is an American business magazine, it was founded in 1929 by Time magazine co-founder Henry Luce. Good condition, light skimming on the edges of the front and back cover, minor water damage on the front cover, light staining, some pages stuck together.
