        Dec. 15, 2023

MAXIMILIAN PFEILER (act.1683-c.1721) - Nature morte romaine

Februar 2022, in Kopie. (1351241) (18)

        Oct. 08, 2022

Maximilian Pfeiler (1656–1746), Still Life with Grapes and Parrot

        Est: €4,000 - €6,000

Maxmilián Pfeiler became a member of the Prague Lesser Town painting guild in 1683 and is known to have lived in Rome from 1694 to 1721. In Rome he was influenced by the works of Christian Berentz and Franz Werner Tamm (1658–1724). The still life is spread outside, probably in a garden. A silver plate and bowl overflowing with blue and green grapes, apples and pomegranates are placed on a lace-trimmed tablecloth. A red parrot sits on the right edge of the picture and looks at the viewer. The fine, gray leaves of the vine in the background on the left respond with their filigree to the lace of the tablecloth. The lace tablecloth has a P embroidered in the corner, which is a reference to Pfeiler's surname. We would like to thank Fred Meijer his expert opinion.

Rahmen. Attributed to Maximilian Pfeiler (1656 - 1746). Maximilian Pfeiler (documented 1683–1721) - attributed Pair of Paintings with Still Life

        Est: €12,000 - €14,000

A still life made from a cut melon, grapes, plums, pears and other fruits is arranged in front of a stone. A bowl full of fruits stands on the stone. A tree frames the scene on the left. Several grapes hang in front of a stone block and two trees, in the foreground are four pomegranates, on the left is a basket with fruits and the view goes into the distance, where mountains rise on the horizon. The still life with the melon is reminiscent of the works of hardly explored Bohemia Maximilian Pfeiler. He became a member of the painters' guild in Prague in 1683 and stayed in Rome from 1694 to 1721. The second still life may have been painted by another artist to complement the first.

        Est: €15,000 - €25,000

The refined compositions of these paintings feature various fruit arranged on a flat stone surface outdoors. One of the paintings features peaches, grapes, pears, and plums arranged by a body of water with two ducks, blue-toned flowers and large heads of cabbage. The dominant element of the second painting is a group of figs in a white napkin with elaborate lace edging, pumpkins, and grapes with leaves. The delicate brushwork and a bright colour palette are typical of Maximilian Pfeiler's paintings.
