Folk Art Painting by Jim Gary Phillips "To Hell in a Hand Basket"

        Est: -

Jim Gary Phillips (Kentucky, b. 1951) Unique folk art here depicting the proverbial hand basket, the devil, and lost souls in the fire, with the verbiage reading: "Buddy You Going to Hell in a Hand Basket If you Don't Put Aside Your Low Down Nigh Stinkin Ways. Repent Get Saved". Also scripted and dated 2006 on the back.(see photo) About the artist: Born in 1951 in Southern Kentucky, Jim Gary Phillips has worked a variety of odd jobs most of his life—factory, construction, surveying, pipeline; usually two or three jobs at a time just to make ends meet. This delightful painting, in his style, is painted on a cabinet door that measures 24" by 18". With very vivid colors and in excellent condition and with a powerful message, this has got to be one of the more unique items we have offered for sale- and by a local Kentucky artist. Provenance: One owner painting purchased in 2006 by the consignor from the artist.
