Cruikshank, 3 folding sheets of engraved music, wood-engraved title vignette and illustrations, tissue-guards (one repaired), bookplate, contemporary ink ownership name to head of title, D2 tear into text with loss to one letter, foxing, mainly to text, occasional light surface soiling, contemporary half calf, rebacked preserving original backstrip, rather crude cloth repairs to joints, rubbed, for Sherwood, Neeley and Jones, 1821 § [Combe (William, imitation)] The Tour of Doctor Prosody...Through Scotland, first edition, hand-coloured aquatint frontispiece and 19 plates, the frontispiece by G. Cruikshank, the others by C. Williams and W. Read, B3 with very small marginal hole, offsetting, some spotting, some light surface soiling and the odd small stain, hinges cracked, contemporary calf, gilt, rebacked preserving portion of original backstrip, extremities rubbed, endpapers renewed, London, Edinburgh & Glasgow, 1821, wear to corners, [Abbey, Life 281 & 277; Tooley 196 & 433]; and others illustrated, most with hand-coloured plates, including another copy of the second mentioned, 8vo (10)

    London.- Egan (Pierce) Life in London; or, the Day and Night Scenes of Jerry Hawthorn, Esq. and...Corinthian Tom, lacking half-title, hand-coloured aquatint frontispiece and 35 plates by Robert & George Cruikshank, wood-engraved vignettes, 6pp. engraved musical notation on 3 folding sheets, 8pp. publisher's advertisements at end, handsomely bound in twentieth century red straight-grain morocco, richly gilt on spine and dentelles, g.e., [c.f. Abbey Life 281; Cohn 262; Tooley 196], 8vo, Sherwood, Neely and Jones, 1822. *** A later issue (with footnote on p.9 and first sheet of music numbered) of this unprecedently popular work famous for its colourful and vivacious characters setting the misery of low life against the folly of high society in Regency London, brought to life by the renowned Cruikshank brothers' illustrations. Many pirated copies, imitations and even theatre productions followed, with the demand for authentic copies so great that reportedly the colourists were unable to keep pace with the printers.

    Egan (Pierce) Life in London; or, the Day and Night Scenes of Jerry Hawthorn, Esq. and...Corinthian Tom, first edition, third issue with footnote on p.9 and first sheet of music numbered, half-title, hand-coloured aquatint frontispiece and 35 plates by Robert & George Cruikshank, wood-engraved vignettes, 6pp. engraved musical notation on 3 folding sheets (a little foxed), 8pp. advertisements and smaller 16pp. catalogue at end, some spotting and offsetting, mostly to tissue guards, with 4pp. prospectus loosely inserted, original pictorial printed boards with 5 vignettes on each cover and 2 on spine, uncut, very slightly rubbed but an excellent copy, preserved in later red calf-backed cloth drop-back box, spine gilt with roan labels, rubbed, [Abbey Life 281; Cohn 262; Tooley 196], 8vo, 1822.
