Zuchari / Piloty del. Because King Herod wants to kill all the little boys, the Holy Family flees to Egypt shortly after Jesus' birth - described in Matthew's Gospel (Mt 2:13). The flight is one of the Seven Sorrows of Mary, commemorated in the Catholic liturgical calendar on 15 September. According to Federico Zuccari, who is one of the main masters of Italian Mannerism and comes from a famous Italian family of artists: his father Ottaviano as well as his brother Taddeo were also highly esteemed painters. In addition to his paintings, a rich oeuvre of drawings has survived, such as the atmospherically dense drawings of Dante Alighieri's "Divine Comedy".       Prof. Ferdinand von Piloty, attr., Szene aus Schillers "Die Räuber" Blick ins dezent von Kerzen illuminierte nächtliche Schlossinterieur, mit dem verzweifelten alten Grafen Moor im Lehnstuhl, welcher eben die Nachricht vom vermeintlichen Tod seines Sohnes Karl erfuhr, dem Klagelied zur Laute von Amalia, der Braut Karls lauschend (2. Akt, 2. Szene), Piloty lieferte die Illustrationen zu "Die Räuber", der 1877 im Auftrag Johann Georg Fischers erschienenen Ausgabe von Werken Friedrich Schillers (vgl. beigegebene Info) und beschickte 1879 den Münchner Glaspalast mit sechs Zeichnungen zu Schillers "Die Räuber", laut beigegebener Kopie der Katalogseite verbildlichte er auch unter Nr. 1373 "II. Akt 2. Scene" – möglicherweise handelt es sich hierbei um das vorliegende Blatt, stimmungsvoll-melodramatisch Darstellung in gedeckter Farbigkeit und mit raffiniertem Licht, Mischtechnik (Aquarell und Gouache), unsigniert, auf Unterlagekarton aufgezogen, hier rückseitig neben Atelierspuren in Blei bezeichnet "Ferdinand v. Piloty", hinter Glas und Passepartout gerahmt, Passepartoutausschnitt ca. 31 x 23,5 cm. Künstlerinfo: genannt Ferdinand von Piloty der Jüngere, dt. Maler, Freskant, Lithograph und Illustrator (1828 München bis 1895 München), Sohn und Schüler des Malers und Lithographen Ferdinand Piloty des Älteren (1786–1844), studierte ab 1843 an der Akademie München, weitergebildet bei seinem Schwager Karl Schorn, stand später stark unter dem Einfluss seines älteren Bruders Carl Theodor von Piloty (1826–1886), unternahm Studienreisen nach Rom, Venedig, Paris und Wien, schuf Fresken im Ratssaal in Landsberg am Lech und im Nationalmuseum München sowie Supraporten für Schloss Herrenchiemsee, Ausmalungen zu Wagnerthemen für Schloss Neuschwanstein und Linderhof, nachhaltige Berühmtheit sicherte ihm das 1865 entstandene Gemälde des 20-jährigen bayerischen "Märchenkönigs" Ludwig II. im Krönungsmantel, beschickte unter anderem den Münchner Glaspalast, erhielt Ehrungen wie die Ludwigsmedaille für Kunst und Wissenschaft, Ehrenmitglied diverser Akademien (u. a. Der bayerische König Maximilian II. beauftragte den Künstler Piloty 1863 zu Ehren des Besuches von Königin Marie von Neapel damit, "das Bildnis der hohen Frau im Wittelsbacher Saale der Residenz, als 'Heldin von Gaeta' al fresco auszuführen" (zitiert nach Härtl-Kasulke, s. u. , S. 301 f.). Im Alten Bayerischen Nationalmuseum, heute Museum der Fünf Kontinente, entstand schließlich das Fresko "Königin Marie von Neapel, eine Tochter Wittelsbachs bei der Verteidigung von Gaeta 1861", das bereits in der zeitgenössischen Literatur als Werk Ferdinand Pilotys bezeichnet wird. Zur Vorbereitung des Freskos reiste Ferdinand Piloty im Auftrag des Königs durch Vermittlung des französischen Außenministers Édouard Drouyn de Lhuys nach Gaeta. Marie Sophie Amalie, Herzogin in Bayern (1841-1925), eine Schwester der österreichischen Kaiserin Elisabeth, war durch ihre Heirat mit dem späteren König Franz II. die letzte Königin beider Sizilien. 1861, nach der Eroberung Neapels durch die Truppen Garibaldis und Crispis, flüchtete das Königspaar in die Festung Gaeta. Königin Marie leistete den königstreuen Truppen Beistand und versorgte Verwundete. Europaweit erregte Maries Verhalten Aufsehen und Bewunderung. Die Signatur rechts unten ist nicht eindeutig auflösbar. In einem umfangreichen Gutachten des vereidigten Kunstsachverständigen Dr. H. Ludwig wird das Bild Ferdinand Piloty zugeschrieben. Kaiser Maximilian zu Pferd mit Gefolge wird von einer Stadtdeputation begrüßt die ihm die Stadtschlüssel überreicht. Das Bild sollte als Vorlage für einen Freskenzyklus im alten Bayerischen Nationalmuseum in München (heute Völkerkundemuseum) dienen. Ausgeführt wurde das Fresko dann durch Andreas Müller. Ferdinand Piloty (der Jüngere) war Schüler der Münchner Akademie unter Schorn und arbeitete auch für König Ludwig II. u.a. auf Schloss Herrenchiemsee. Bei Thieme-Becker, Bd.
