          Peintures du cabinet de Jules II au Vatican, de l'invention de Raphaël, recueillies par les Piranesi. Paris, Piranesi, Leblanc ; Rome, Th. Piroli, 1804. – Peintures de la Ville Altoviti à Rome inventées par Michelange, peintes par Giorgio Vasari... faisant partie de la Calcographie Piranesi. Paris, [Piranesi], 1807. 2 volumes in-folio, demi-vélin vert avec coins, dos lisse, pièces de titre et de tomaison rouges (Reliure de l'époque). Premier tirage de ces deux suites de gravures au trait exécutées par l'artiste romain Tommaso Piroli (1752-1824). La première comprend 2 ff. typographiques et 14 gravures sur 7 planches, d'après Raphaël ; la seconde, un titre gravé et 13 gravures sur 8 planches, d'après Giorgio Vasari. Ces deux volumes forment les tomes XXV et XXVI des Œuvres de Piranèse publiée à l'atelier de chalcographie parisien de ses fils Pietro et Francesco ; ils sont tomés au dos en conséquence. Quelques piqûres et rousseurs, petit manque à une pièce de tomaison, léger accroc à une coiffe.

The portfolio 'Peintures De La Sala Borgia, Au Vatican, De L'Invention De Raphael, Receuillies Par Les Piranesi, Et Dessinées Par Thomas Piroli' shows part of the mythological figures from Raphael's stanzas in the papal palace Vatican. The portfolio shows: I. 'Char du Soleil, ou d'apollon', numbered '1039.a.N.1' in the upper right; II. 'Char de la Lune, ou de Diane', numbered '1039.b.2."; III. "Char de Jupiter", numbered with "1039.c 3"; IV. "Char de Venus", numbered with "1039.d 4"; V. "Char de Mars", numbered with "1040a 5"; VI "Char de Mercure", numbered with "1040.b. 6"; VII "Char de Saturne", numbered with "1040 c.7". Etching VIII shows 5 different frieze sequences with ornamental figure decoration such as putti or lions, numbered "1041a" in the upper right corner. Etching IX. shows 2 frieze sequences with mythological figures such as Minerva and Jupiter, numbered at the top right with "1041b." and "9". The paper is discoloured due to age. The corners of the sheet are partly torn and creased. Scattered rubbing is visible in the illustration. The leaves in the centre are in better condition than the outer portfolio leaves. While the first and last leaves have yellowish discolouration and are slightly foxed over the entire page, the middle leaves show only isolated foxing and very well preserved coloured sheet pages. The edges are untrimmed and slightly curled. There are some large liquid stains at the corners and edges: large liquid stain centrally over the left sheet margin, smaller liquid stain over the upper right sheet corner. The portfolio has been folded once horizontally across the centre. The illustrations make a very good impression.
