      Adolf Pirsch, Herrenportrait Brustbildnis eines würdevollen Mannes mittleren Alters im grauen Anzug, spätestens seit seinen viel beachteten Gemälden Kaiser Franz Josephs I. und Papst Leos XIII. aus dem Jahre 1900 und den prestigeträchtigen päpstlichen Ehrungen umwarben Hocharistokratie und das vermögende Großbürgertum den Maler mit Bildnisaufträgen, welche ihm ein sorgenfreies Dasein ermöglichten und sein Ansehen in breiten Kreisen steigerte, gering pastose Bildnismalerei, Öl auf Leinwand, rechts oben signiert und datiert "Ad. Pirsch 1904", wenige Retuschen, minimal restaurierungsbedürftig, original hinter Glas gerahmt, Falzmaße ca. 96 x 75 cm. Künstlerinfo: österr. Bildnis- und Genremaler (1858 Gradac/Bela krajina bis 1929 Graz), studierte 1874–79 an der Landschaftlichen Zeichenakademie Graz bei Heinrich Schwach, anschließend bis ca. 1880 Studienreise nach Italien (Venedig, Florenz, Rom), dann freischaffend als Altar- und Kirchenmaler in Graz und Marburg, später vor allem als Portraitmaler hochgestellter Persönlichkeiten wie Papst Leo XIII. (1900) und Kaiser Franz Joseph (1900) tätig, längere Aufenthalte in Wien und um 1906 als Portraitist der sächsischen Königsfamilie in Dresden, auf Veranlassung des sächsischen Königs 1906 Ausstellung der Werke Pirschs im Dresdner Taschenbergpalais, 1907 Übersiedlung von Graz nach Dresden, zeitweise in Tschechien und Belgien, 14 Jahre Aufenthalt in England und hier Portraitist der englischen High Society, 1914 Flucht nach Holland und ab 1916 in Haarlem ansässig, portraitierte im Doorner Exil den Exkaiser Wilhelm II., kurz vor seinem Tod Rückkehr nach Graz, 1900 Ehrung mit dem päpstlichen Gregoriusorden und dem Titel "Cavaliere", Quelle: Thieme-Becker, Saur "Bio-Bibliographisches Künstlerlexikon", Wastler "Steirisches Künstler-Lexicon", Österreichisches Biographisches Lexikon, Gudrun Danzer und Damijan Movrin im Artikel "Von Gradac nach Graz – Der Maler Adolf Pirsch ...", Müller-Singer, Fuchs, Bénézit und Wikipedia.
