Note: Manzana Pissarro, as the son of Camille Pissarro (1830-1903), was highly influenced by the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist milieu in which his father worked, and was surrounded in his youth by figures such as Paul Cézanne (1839-1906), Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841-1919), and Claude Monet (1840-1926). The present work exhibits Manzana Pissarro's distinctive style, evident in the sinuous forms of the embracing couple, and the flowing lines of the palm fronds beyond, which also gestures towards the artist's inclination towards Orientalist subject matter.

Georges Henri Manzana Pissarro, French 1871-1961- Femme devant des feuilles de palmier; mixed media and technique on board, signed lower left, 32x39.8cm (unframed) (ARR) Provenance: Acquired from the estate of the artist by the present owner. Note: Manana was influenced by the exotic Arabian fairy-tales and sumptuous ornamentation typical of Art Nouveau. His unique Oriental and decorative style is notable for a palette rich in gold and intricate arabesque outlines subordinating all the elements of the composition to their rhythm. This piece is unframed. Minor marks to the surface, some creases to the gold (which would have been the artists aesthetic) and minor pigment loss. The edges are slightly worn. Overall the piece is in good condition.
