Fréderic Trigo Piula was born in 1953 in Pointe-Noire, where he still lives and works. A painter, sculptor, engraver, drawer and writer, he is certainly the most important Congolese artist of the last decades. He combines a high level education in all art techniques with a taste for surprises and unique subjects, often loaded with irony.

He is one of the protagonists of one of the first international exhibitions on contemporary African art: “Africa Explores”, held in various American and European museums from 1991 to 1993. Before and after, he was part of many of the most important exhibitions on contemporary African art in France, Germany, Italy, England and the USA.
