EDGAR PLANS (Madrid, 1977). "Animal Hero Pop Version 1", 2017. Oil on canvas. Signed and titled on the back. Measurements: 100 x 100 cm. Little comic book mice with super heroes masks carry in their hands a kind of flashlight that illuminates colorful worlds. They remind us of colorful balloons like those held by street vendors to the delight of children, and are made with short strokes applied with generous touches of pigment. One of the fantasy creatures is sad because his lantern emits no light. Light symbolizes in this painting by Edgar Plans the imagination, the ability to create alternative and visionary worlds. That is why these singular characters who transform the gray aridity of the desert into a festival of colors are Pop heroes. Edgar Plans' painting is brimming with naïff freshness. He drinks from the world of graffiti and the simplicity of comic universes. His paintings are spontaneous and colorful, simple in stroke but deep in the imprint they leave in our memory, rescuing from our memories shared scenes of our childhood. We are before a painter who enjoys great acceptance in international events and in the art market, being one of the most sought-after young artists. According to the artist's own words: "Already as a child I have engraved in my memory the cocking of the keys of my father's typewriter (Juan José Plans, 1943-2014). In his studio he had a low table with seats, four of them, and around it, while he was writing I remember drawing with my brothers." His academic training began at the age of 15 when he began studying at the studio of artist José María Ramos. Two years later, Plans, he opened his own studio, which had in turn been the studio of the artist Nicanor Piñole. Throughout his career he has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions, including Art Notes 019, Ainori Gallery, Lisbon, Wall Art Notes, Miquel Alzueta Gallery, Barcelona, ArtWynwood. Edgar Plans' palette, together with his broken and impetuous stroke, brims with naïff freshness and the imprint of New York graffiti. His paintings are spontaneous and colorful, simple in stroke but deep in the imprint they leave in our memory, rescuing from our memories shared scenes of our childhood. In this work the author shows us a schematic protagonist on "a blue horse", perhaps in allusion to the mythical expressionist group the blue rider, founded by Wassily Kandinsky and Franz Marc. A remarkable fact is that Plans sketches on the face of the protagonist a mask that reproduces the face of an equine, thus creating a visual metaphor around the role of each of the characters in the painting. This is a painter who enjoys great success in international events and in the art market, being one of the most sought-after young artists. Measurements: 170 x 245 cm. The "Wall notes" rugs are works of textile art, whose brushstrokes are materialized with colored wool yarns woven on recycled cotton canvas. It is a unique and original work resulting from the collaboration of the artist Edgar Plans and the Lorena Canals brand. Plans and Canals' collaboration also comes to life through the pages of the limited edition textile book "Libro Sensorial" (Sensory Book). The book narrates in textile illustrations the collaborative process by which Lorena Canals turned Edgar Plans' characters (animal heroes) into a collection of fun washable wool rugs and cotton knitted cushions, designed for children's decoration. A sort of textile scrapbook, totally handmade, it includes miniature rugs, embroidered phrases of the characters, design sketches and even a removable hand-stitched superhero mask. Edgar Plans is an artist with an up-and-coming career, enjoying great acclaim at international events and in the art market. According to the artist's own words, "Even as a very young child I have engraved in my memory the cocking of the keys of my father's typewriter (Juan José Plans, 1943-2014). In his studio he had a low table with seats, four of them, and around it, while he was writing I remember drawing with my brothers." His academic training began at the age of 15 when he began studying at the studio of artist José María Ramos. Two years later, Plans, he opened his own studio, which had in turn been the studio of the artist Nicanor Piñole. Throughout his career he has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including Art Notes 019, Ainori Gallery, Lisbon, Wall Art Notes, Miquel Alzueta Gallery, Barcelona, ArtWynwood.
