Plazzotta, Enzo (1921-1981), Nadia Nerina - Arabesque a Terra II, undated, 1967, bronze statue, stamped Plazzotta and numbered 9/12, height 27 inches, width 17.5 inches from hand to hand. Provenance: Originally purchased by Joseph Freeman from the artist in London in 1968, with a scan of the original certificate present. Nadia Nerina was a South African dancer who was "one of the most gifted, versatile, and inspiring ballerinas of The Royal Ballet" during the 1950s and 1960s.

Delle principali opere ricordiamo 'Young dancer', situata a Londra di fronte Opera House a Convent garden, 'Homage to Leonardo', situata a Belgrave Square e 'Jetè', situata al Thames Embarkement. Molte sue opere sono conservate in collezioni private e pubbliche, fra le quali alcune al Vaticano, all'Hermitage, a Losanna e alla Queensland Art gallery di Brisbane Questa splendida realizzazione, composta dai volti espressivi di Peter Ustinov nei suoi più importanti film, fu realizzata nel 1968 ed è la prima fusione di una serie di dodici sculture per le quali Ustinov posò come modello. His series of bronzes exploring the theme of dance were initially inspired by the South African prima ballerina Nadia Nerina, represented in the present lot, which demonstrates his deep understanding of movement and engaging use of the sculptural medium.
