At the lower part dated: "25/2 68" | "27/2 68". Date: 1868 Description: The present sheet shows a head study in profile and frontally from an elevated view of daughter Trude. For the illustration of his figures, observing his own children was inspiring and a good school. Oskar Pletsch studied at the Dresden Art Academy and was a pupil of Ludwig Richter. Richter's influence is unmistakable in Pletsch's drawings and woodcuts. He eventually developed his own genre painting from Richter's late Romanticism, focusing in particular on everyday and family motifs. Lower right dated: "20t novb. 66". Date: 1866 Description: The artist Oskar Pletsch was known for his children's book illustrations. The book "Die Kinderstube in 36 Bildern" was his first great success. It illustrates the life of children in many facets - carefree at play or proudly helping with housework. From then until 1881, another children's book appeared in annual succession. The present sketch shows the artist's daughter as a breast piece in profile. She is sitting in front of a bowl at a table and is intently cutting a potato. For the illustration of his figures, observing his own children was inspiring and a good school. Oskar Pletsch studied at the Dresden Art Academy and was a pupil of Ludwig Richter. Richter's influence is unmistakable in Pletsch's drawings and woodcuts. He eventually developed his own genre painting from Richter's late Romanticism, focusing in particular on everyday and family motifs. The book "Die Kinderstube in 36 Bildern" was his first great success. It illustrates the life of children in many facets: carefree at play or proudly helping with housework. From then until 1881, another children's book appeared in annual succession. For the illustration of his figures, observing his own children was inspiring and a good school. The present sketch shows children playing in the garden. A bigger one of the group has climbed over the fence and is standing on a water trough. The smaller ones want to follow him and call out, see caption: "May we come along!". Oskar Pletsch studied at the Dresden Art Academy and was a pupil of Ludwig Richter. Richter's influence is unmistakable in Pletsch's drawings and woodcuts. From Richter's late romanticism he finally developed his own genre painting, which concentrated especially on everyday and family motifs.
