Chris Plowman Art for Sale at Auction

b. 1952 - d. 2009

Chris Plowman was born in Fareham, Hampshire, his father an MOD scientist, and his mother an artist and psychotherapist.

He studied Fine Art at Wolverhampton Polytechnic before going on to postgraduate study at the Royal College of Art (RCA), where he achieved a Masters in Printmaking.

He particularly excelled in printmaking and sculpture, steel being a favoured material. His art often used mundane, disregarded objets trouvee, in unexpected and original combinations: amusing, divergent and surprising, variations of material, medium, technology or scale.

Chris had a highly developed sense of the absurd. The etching 'Desk of Confusion' is chaotic and playful, but his skill in the detail is immediately apparent.

Plowman produced prints which were widely exhibited, particularly silkscreens, etchings and photo-etchings. His artwork is exhibited in the Tate Gallery, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the British Council and New York Public Library collections.

Chris taught from 1987-99 at the RCA.

In 1987 he won the Henry Moore Foundation prize for sculpture.
