    Est: €400 - €600

POGANY WILLY: (1882-1955) Hungarian Illustrator of Children's books. A good original watercolour illustration by Pogany, being a piece of artwork used in an edition of The Elves and the Shoemaker, on a 11.5 x 7.5 stiff piece of art board, the image depicting a team of thirteen elves busily working on the construction of a leather boot as a gentleman and lady look through an open window in astonishment. Signed ('WILLY POGANY') by the artist to the lower edge. An indistinct annotation in an unidentified hand to the verso indicates that the illustration was used on page 25. Some staining and age wear to the edges, G The Elves and the Shoemaker is a set of fairy tales collected by the Brothers Grimm about a poor shoemaker who received much needed help from young elves.
