      Uli Pohl (b. 1935), Acrylic Glass Sculpture, 'twT-1-73', 1973

      Est: €4,800 - €6,000

Acrylic glass, stainless steel Germany, 1973 Uli Pohl (b. 1935) - German sculptor Signed and titled from below 'uli pohl. twT-1-73' Overall dimensions: 51 x 34.5 x 16 cm (height x width x depth) Very good condition Provenance: private collection, Berlin, Germany Uli Pohl was involved in the exhibitions of the group 'Zero' since 1961 and also joined the Parisian artist society 'Nouvelle Tendance'; his works are sold at international auctions The present sculpture was made by the German artist Uli Pohl and dates to 1973. It is composed of a geometric stainless steel base which holds a square acrylic glass structure with a vertical slit. The sculpture clearly corresponds to the artist's approach of exploring and reflecting the basic aesthetic categories of plastic arts, meaning 'body', 'material', 'space', 'movement' and 'light'. In this context it is very important to mention Pohl's deliberate use of transparent acrylic glass which stimulates the reflection on the mentioned categories in an equivalent manner. The square shape of the sculpture also corresponds to this idea, as its proportions are even and perceived as 'neutral' by the viewer. This finally leads to the reflection about the titles the artist usually chooses for his works: mere numbers and letters that do not lead the interpretation of the pieces in a certain direction. The work is in very good condition with only minimal traces of wear. It is signed and titled from underneath on the base 'uli pohl. twT-1-73' and measures 51 x 34.5 x 16 cm (height x width x depth). Uli Pohl (geb. 1935) Born in Munich, Uli Pohl studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, where he attended the class of Ernst Geitlinger. He supported the exhibitions of the group 'Zero' since 1961 and also became a member of the artist society 'Nouvelle Tendance' in Paris. Parallel to his artistic activities, Pohl also worked as a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg (1967-1971). His sculptural work is determined by the material of acrylic glass, as it perfectly corresponds with his ideas and concepts which are related to the thinking of Concrete Art. Uli Pohl is active as a sculptor, printmaker and draftsman and now lives in Blaustein near Ulm. His works are internationally traded and can be found in important collections such as the Kunstmuseum in Dusseldorf, the Wilhelm-Lehmbruck-Museum in Duisburg (which is especially renowned for it's collection of sculpture) and the Museum in Ulm.
