In very fine, colour-fresh condition Erläuterungen / Comments Serge Poliakoff ist für seine abstrakten Kompositionen mit gegeneinander abgegrenzten Farbflächen bekannt. Sukzessive erweiterte er seine Farbskala um leuchtende, manchmal minimal kontrastierende Töne. Immer wieder finden sich Serien von monochromen Kompositionen in Rot, Grün, Gelb, Grau, oder Blau. So in 1962, als eine wunderbare Folge in Blau entstand, zu der die vorliegende Arbeit zu zählen ist. Fein abgesetzte Blautöne dominieren die Komposition, die teilweise ins Violett geht, weil der Künstler für einzelne Flächen ein Rot als Untergrund wählte. Serge Poliakoff is known for his abstract compositions with contrasting areas of colour. He gradually expanded his colour palette to include bright, sometimes minimally contrasting tones. Again and again we find series of monochrome compositions in red, green, yellow, grey or blue. This was the case in 1962, when he created a marvellous series in blue, to which the present work belongs. The composition is dominated by finely contrasting shades of blue, which in some cases veer towards violet because the artist chose red as the background for individual areas.
