      Mid Century 1966 Oil on Canvas by Angel Ponce de Leon (b1925, Spain), Abstract. 50"x30.5"x1". Weight 8 lbs. Black tape around edge is coming off. studied in Madrid and Paris at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. Measures Angelo Ponce de Leon worked in South and Central America but was most active in Paris, New York and Nice, France Thereafter followed a period of extensive travel, to South America (Buenos Aires, Argentina, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Quito, Ecuador). By 1951 he was living in Cagnes-sur-mer in southern France, spending significant amounts of time in Nice, Menton, Toulouse, and Paris. During this time he worked with Jean Cocteau in Cap-Ferrat and Marbella and with Georges Braque in Saint-Paul-de-Vence. Angelo Ponce de Leon is an important Spanish modernist artist in the tradition of Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Joan Miro and Esteban Vicente. During the early 1960's the artist settled in the United States for a time, in 1963 exhibiting alongside Antoni Tapies, Sam Francis, Vieira da Silva, and showed with other Latin American masters. After 1962 he turned towards geometric abstraction influenced heavily by the French artist Auguste Herbin, A French painter of modern art best known for his Cubist and abstract paintings consisting of colorful geometric figures. A founder of the groups Abstraction-Création and Salon des Réalités Nouvelles which promoted non-figurative abstract art. He has a painting title Homage to Nicolas de Stael. He eventually settled back in the village of Petite Camargue in the south of France.
