Laurence Poole Sold at Auction Prices

b. 1963 -

Laurence Poole was born in London in 1963 and now lives and works in Hastings, East Sussex. He was educated at Croydon College of Art, Chelsea College of Art & Design, Sussex College, and the University of Brighton.

His career spans photography, interior and lighting design, product design, graphics, painting and sculpture - often blurring the parameters of these different disciplines. He is also an accomplished model maker, regarding scale models as a crucial phase in prototype and ideas development.

Poole often uses 'found' objects in his sculptures, explaining "assemblage sculptures often have a lengthy gestation period, involving periods of research and epic sourcing quests, followed by the all-important assemblage arrangement itself...the pursuit of a mesmeric aesthetic." Each sculpture is unique, featuring a mixture of unusual colourful and charming artefacts. They include everyday products such as postage stamps, toy cars and vintage film cameras - items that evoke a compelling nostalgia. The qualities that make his sculptures particularly distinctive and captivating are his witty comments on familiar objects expressed in sophisticated colour compositions.
