The work can be compared to treatments of the subject by the Florentine and Venetian schools, notibly Giuseppe Porta (1520–1575), also known as Giuseppe Salviati, a mannerist painter and draughtsman. He was born in Salviati, near Florence. Porta was a pupil of Francesco de' Rossi (Il Salviati), whose name he subsequently adopted. He was influenced by the styles of Michelangelo and Andrea del Sarto.
