Hank Porter Christmas Carolers Illustration Original Ar

          Est: -

Hank Porter Christmas Carolers Illustration Original Art (Walt Disney, 1938). Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Pluto, the Three Little Pigs, Dopey and more band together for an incredibly charming pen and ink illustration by one of the most gifted of all Disney draftsmen, Hank Porter. Porter was considered so crucial to the Disney franchise that he was enlisted to help design the forest animals for the hugely important animated feature Snow White (animals strikingly similar to those featured in this drawing) as well as pencil and ink the Show White Sunday newspaper strip in 1938. Practically every square inch of this remarkable rendering is crammed with exquisite detail, in particular the gorgeous shading and shadowing effects and scratchboard-like technique, all created by lines drawn from Mr. Porter's pen. Noted art dealer and comics art historian Russ Cochran has declared this a "masterpiece... and I do not use that word lightly," and we here at Heritage wholeheartedly agree. It's believed the art was created as the cover for a Sunday newspaper supplement, most likely Hearst's American Weekly Magazine, as the Disney newspaper comic strips were syndicated by Hearst's King Features, and a tie-in with Disney would have been a natural. The art is on illustration board, with an impressively large image area measuring approximately 16.5" x 20.75". The art has some wear and minor soiling along the border edges, plus a 1.5" tear along the upper left hand edge, about 1.5" down from the top edge of the image; still, the powerful and dramatic image overwhelms these insignificant flaws, and will display beautifully. It's easily one of the most impressive pieces of black and white Disney art this cataloger has seen, and we're certain you'll agree upon personal inspection.
