Drawing, pen and ink and grey wash, brown framing line, 11x20,9 cm., signed "Pieter Idserdts 1741" in pen and brown ink in lower right corner below the image. - Trimmed to the left, right and upper framing line; a few foxed specks and a vague yellow stain; verso w. strip of sellotape along upper margin. = Portier is renowned for his maritime views and Frisian village views. Lot of 21 drawings, pen and black ink, grey wash, each ±14x20 cm., black framing lines (3x without framing lines), 9x signed or monogrammed and dated (1746 to 1765) and 2x titled ("Gesight bi kopool aan de zeedick. (...) Anno:1746" and "de Stadt Nieû Amsterdam in Osteinden" (1765)) in pen and ink. - Twelve drawings w. left and right margin trimmed within framing line (most likely with hardly any loss of image); some sl. occas. foxing/ soiling; 1 drawing w. (vague) creases; all drawings w. old inventory ticket (w. ms. no. "68") on verso. = Rich and extensive collection, comprising 8 maritime views, 11 city/ village views (many with ships) and two ornamental designs. Portier is renowned for his maritime views and Frisian village views. "Hij is (...) stadspoortwachter op de Westerpoort [Franeker] en heeft aan dat officie zijn naam ontleend. Hij deed toen ook aan tegelschilderen, en aan zijn bekwaamheid heeft hij te danken, dat de Gedeputeerden van Friesland hem 2 Maart 1744 benoemden tot landschapsteekenaar aan de franeker hoogeschool (...) om de studeerende jeugd (...) te onderrichten in teekenen (...)" (NNBW X, p.753). "Hij was een vaardig teekenaar van schepen en watergezigten, meest naar de natuur in Friesland geteekend" (Van der Aa IX, p.4). SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE CXXXVII.
